A crucial step in your fertility journey. We assess the health of your uterine cavity and check if your fallopian tubes are open, without the use of X-ray radiation.
If you are trying to conceive, ensuring that your fallopian tubes are open and functioning is vital. A Hysterosalpingo-Contrast-Sonography (HyCoSy) is a specialized, outpatient procedure that provides immediate answers about your tubal patency while simultaneously checking your ovaries and uterus.
Traditionally, tubal patency was checked using an HSG (Hysterosalpingogram), which involves X-rays and iodine dye. HyCoSy uses advanced ultrasound and a biologically safe contrast foam, eliminating radiation exposure and generally causing less discomfort.
The Procedure:
Timing: The scan must be performed between Day 5 and Day 10 of your menstrual cycle (after bleeding stops but before ovulation).
The Scan: Similar to a Pap smear and an SIS combined, a tiny catheter is inserted into the cervix. A specialized contrast foam is passed through the catheter.
The Results: The sonographer watches the ultrasound screen in real-time to see if the bright white foam flows freely out of the ends of the fallopian tubes, indicating they are open.
Most women experience mild to moderate cramping, similar to menstrual cramps. We recommend taking standard ibuprofen 1-2 hours prior to the procedure.
Yes, you will be fine to drive, though some patients prefer to have a partner or friend accompany them for support.
