The Morphology Scan (19–22 Weeks)

Commonly known as the “Morphology Scan,” this detailed examination occurs halfway through your pregnancy. Because the baby is now larger and surrounded by a good volume of amniotic fluid, our sonographers can visualize internal organs in incredible detail.

Our Systematic Head-to-Toe Checklist:

• Neurological: Detailed views of the brain’s structures and spine.

• Cardiovascular: A meticulous examination of the four chambers of the heart and the major outflow vessels.

• Abdominal: Checking the stomach, kidneys, bladder, and abdominal wall insertion.

• Skeletal: Measuring long bones (femur, humerus) and examining the hands, feet, and face (checking for cleft lip).

• Support System: Locating the placenta to ensure it is clear of the cervix, checking the umbilical cord, and measuring amniotic fluid levels.

• Gender: If you wish to know, we can usually determine the biological sex of the baby at this stage (please let us know your preference at the start of the scan!).
