The Morphology Scan (19–22 Weeks)
The most comprehensive ultrasound of your pregnancy. A detailed, head-to-toe structural assessment of your growing baby.
The most comprehensive ultrasound of your pregnancy. A detailed, head-to-toe structural assessment of your growing baby.
Commonly known as the “Morphology Scan,” this detailed examination occurs halfway through your pregnancy. Because the baby is now larger and surrounded by a good volume of amniotic fluid, our sonographers can visualize internal organs in incredible detail.
Our Systematic Head-to-Toe Checklist:
Neurological: Detailed views of the brain’s structures and spine.
Cardiovascular: A meticulous examination of the four chambers of the heart and the major outflow vessels.
Abdominal: Checking the stomach, kidneys, bladder, and abdominal wall insertion.
Skeletal: Measuring long bones (femur, humerus) and examining the hands, feet, and face (checking for cleft lip).
Support System: Locating the placenta to ensure it is clear of the cervix, checking the umbilical cord, and measuring amniotic fluid levels.
Gender: If you wish to know, we can usually determine the biological sex of the baby at this stage (please let us know your preference at the start of the scan!).
This scan takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes. A full bladder is not usually required at this stage, but we recommend staying well-hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment to ensure good amniotic fluid levels.
